Jessner Peel

The Jessner Peel is our strongest peel option, designed to be slightly more aggressive to target hyperpigmentation from sun damage, minimize fine lines, and even out skin texture and tone. The Jessner Peel is relaxing yet satisfying, as you will be able to feel the active ingredients at work while applying.

Get The Facts

The Jessner Peel comprises of 14% lactic acid, 14% salicylic acid, and 14% resorcinol to encourage exfoliation and cell renewal to reveal healthier, smoother-looking skin. Depending on your skin sensitivity, as you continue your treatment series, we can customize the potency of your procedure by adding additional layers of the peel, along with a retinol booster. Once this self-neutralizing peel is applied, it will remain on your skin, topped with sunscreen.

Pre-Treatment

Before you Arrive:
+ Please ensure you have filled out your Health History/Intake form before your appointment. If you are unable to complete it, please arrive 15 minutes early
+ Please let us know if you have a history of cold sores so we can arrange for a prophylactic antiviral medication before treatment

How to Prepare:
+ Though it’s not necessary to come make-up-free, consider arriving to your appointment with a bare face
+ Daily SPF application is recommended

What to avoid:
We recommend avoiding the following:
+ Neuromodulator treatment for a minimum of 2 weeks prior (these treatments can be done on the same day, as long as the Neuromodulator treatment is after the facial)
+ Filler treatment 4 weeks prior
+ Applying exfoliants or actives such as AHA/BHAs, Retinol, Hydroquinone, Benzyl Peroxide, etc. for 2-5 days prior depending on skin sensitivity
+ Excessive sun exposure 2 weeks prior
+ Waxing or shaving the treatment area 5 days prior
+ Must be off of oral isotretinoin (Accutane) for a minimum of 6 months prior
+ Is it our policy to not provide treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Post-Treatment

Downtime:
+ Redness, irritation, dryness, tightness, and peeling to the treated area are normal for up to a week
+ Hydrate your skin with a gentle moisturizer
+ The peel will increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight, so daily SPF application is recommended

What to Avoid:
Please avoid the following:
+ Applying anything to the face (including water), except for SPF until the next morning after treatment
+ Avoiding complete sun exposure in the treatment area until the next morning
+ Excessive sun exposure for 2 weeks
+ Picking or peeling off skin post-peel – let it slough off naturally to avoid adverse reactions
+ Excessive exposure to heat for 24-72 hours
+ Avoid exercising for 24-72 hours
+ Makeup over the treatment area for 24 hours
+ Applying actives (AHA/BHAs, Retinol, Hydroquinone, Benzyl Peroxide, etc.) for 5-7 days, depending on skin sensitivity
+ No laser treatments for 4 weeks

Follow Up:
+ Depending on skin concerns, a series of 3 treatments, about 4-6 weeks apart may be recommended
+ Once the initial series is complete and desired outcome has been reached, maintenance treatments can be done as often as you wish throughout the year to continue collagen rejuvenation and support overall skin restoration and health

Frequently Asked Questions

+ How do the ingredients in the Jessner Peel work?

A Jessner peel consists of 12% Salicylic Acid, 4% Lactic Acid, and 14% Resorcinol. Salicylic acid dissolves hardened skin cells and opens up clogged pores on the outermost layer. Lactic acid adds a dose of hydration. Resorcinol encourages healthy cell renewal with its antibacterial properties.

+ How Many Jessner Peel treatments are required?

After your first Jessner Peel, you will notice the results in a week or two as the skin heals. 3-6 Jessner Peel sessions may be required to achieve desirable results, depending on the skin concern(s).

+ What reasons can make me ineligible for the Jessner Peel?

Contraindications include allergy to resorcinol, delayed or abnormal healing, active inflammation in the area treated, and taking oral isotretinoin therapy within six months of the treatment. Patients with active cold sores, warts, wounds, sunburns, excessive sensitivity, dermatitis, and rosacea in the area to be treated should be excluded from Jessner peels as they may precipitate a flare-up. The peel may not be suitable for darker skin tones for the risk of hyperpigmentation.

+ What to expect during a Jessner Peel?

The Jessner Peel procedure happens quickly – basically in minutes. A cleanser and toner are first applied, and then you may feel a warm, tingling sensation during the application of the peel solution. Based on your skin tolerance, after about 3-5 minutes from the initial application, another layer or two of the Jessner solution will be applied to your skin. Retinol Boosters are an option to increase the peeling, flaking, and shedding of dead skin cells. SPF is then applied.

+ What to do after a Jessner Peel Procedure?

The peel is self-neutralizing, so it remains on your skin after you leave the clinic. No water or additional products are to be applied other than an SPF for the initial 12 hours post and you must avoid direct sunlight.
It is crucial to adhere to post-peel instructions to decrease the risk of adverse reactions. It is recommended to use gentle skincare for 5-7 days following the procedure. The skin may become dry and tight and then begin to peel, which can last for up to a week. The sloughing skin of the face should not be picked or peeled following a Jessner Peel.

+ What are the Potential Side Effects of Jessner Peel?

Common side effects that may result from a Jessner Peel includes mild stinging, mild swelling, redness of the affected area, and pigmentation.
